Summer is here and that means all the summer produce in season! Corn on the cob is one of my favorite things to eat during the summer months whether we're having a big BBQ with friends, or just a quick and easy weeknight meal. Cooking corn on the cob in the microwave makes it an easy side dish you can throw together in minutes.

How to Cook Corn on the Cob in the Microwave:

Cooking corn on the cob in the microwave is a super easy process. All you need to do is throw the corn in the microwave with the husk still on the corn. The general rule of thumb is to microwave for two minutes per ear of corn. Test for doneness by gently pressing the corn when it's done cooking. If it feels like it's softened, the corn is done, if the kernels still feel hard when you squeeze, then microwave in 30 second increments until the kernels have softened all the way through.

Once your corn is cooked, simply take a knife and cut off the bottom (non-pointed side of the corn) of your corn on the cob, and squeeze the top end of the husk and the corn will slip right out with none of the strings still attached. It is so simple and easy!

How Many Ears of Corn Can You Cook in the Microwave:

I would personally never cook more than four ears of corn at a time in the microwave. I personally don't like my microwave to run for too long, and only about four ears can fit flat and comfortably on the microwave plate. If you're cooking more than four ears of corn, I recommend boiling them in a pot on the stove, or trying another cooking method. You could also cook your corn in batches in the microwave, but that would take so long that another cooking method would be quicker.

The Best Toppings for Corn on the Cob:

The quick and easy way to eat corn on the cob is of course the traditional route with butter. If you want to take things up a notch though you could make it a bit more fancy by adding things like seasoning salt, parmesan, roasted garlic, or even mayo on your corn to give it some added flavor!

Corn on the Cob Handles:

Corn on the cob handles are a must when eating corn on the cob with children. If your kids are anything like mine, they hate getting messy and everything is always too hot for their little hands. Corn on the cob handles save our bacon on the regular in the summer months. This classic 24-pack on Amazon is under $10 and will be a kitchen staple for years and years to come.
