Banana and Blueberry Smoothie

This banana and blueberry smoothie is the perfect base smoothie recipe for a breakfast with endless possibilities and flavor combinations.

I feel like I'm going to be thrown in food jail for saying this, but I don't really love eating bananas. As a runner I feel like I'm supposed to want to eat one after every run I do, and that they're supposed to be a huge part of my diet, but I just can't. Throw one in a delicious smoothie though? Yes and yes. In fact, I often feel like a smoothie isn't a smoothie without a banana. Does anyone else agree on my logic here? This Banana and Blueberry Smoothie is a great quick and easy breakfast before school, a workout, or anytime you need a fruit filled fix.

Banana and Blueberry Smoothie:

This banana and blueberry smoothie is a great way to get a blast of good and healthy fat, carbs, and protein early in the morning to start your day. This recipe comes together with one banana, one cup of blueberries, 1/4 cup of plain non-fat greek yogurt, and about 1/4 cup of any milk of your choice. I used whole in my smoothie but you could certainly use any nut, oat, or soy milk in it's place as well!

Good Blender for Smoothies:

Right around Christmas in 2019 we got a Kitchenaid K400 blender. We had a few really bad blenders previously that were super cheap, but couldn't blend a smoothie for the life of them. This Kitchenaid blender has a 1.5 HP motor, and we haven't had any issues with it not blending frozen fruit or having to smoosh things around to get it going again. I love that I can toss in all my smoothie ingredients at once, turn it on, and within a few seconds everything is blended super smoothly and ready to drink!

Banana and Blueberry Smoothie Variations:

If you're looking for some ideas for some different variations of this smoothie recipe, you could:
  • Add a scoop of vanilla protein powder
  • Add a handful of spinach to up the greens
  • A scoop of peanut butter for even more flavor, fats, and protein
